The regional workshop was organized by one of SmartX partners, Città Studi – Po.in.tex, on the 30th of September 2019 in Biella, Italy. It focused on key issues facing the European smart textiles market, as well as boosting innovation in the sector.

The event brought together more than 40 representatives from large enterprises, SMEs, and start-ups, along with researchers and other partners working in the fields of smart textiles and industrial modernisation. Journalists were also in attendance.

The main goal of the workshop was to help participants discover state-of-the-art innovation in smart textiles through expert presentations, stay up to date on the EU strategy for the industry, and learn about applying for SmartX support and funding.
[The Expression of Interest call is now open.]

The day began with a welcome speech by Mr. Marco Bardelle, President of the Po.in.tex Steering Committee. One of the highlights of the event was the presentation by Lutz Walter, Project Coordinator of SmartX and Secretary General of Textile ETP, who spoke about funding and growth opportunities for European companies in the smart textile industry.

Other timely topics covered by speakers included textile-based solutions for advanced defence applications, blockchain and the traceability of textile products, and the latest in textile innovation.

Following the presentations, many attendees expressed interest in further information about the SmartX programme and related issues, such as smart textiles and innovative textile products, circular economy, textile applications, cross-sectorial integration, and the end-of-life of textile products.

The event offered ample opportunities for networking and establishing a base for future collaboration and exchange of services or products. It was concluded with an attendee questionnaire – all participants declared the workshop was useful or very useful.
