Recap: SmartX Regional Event Portugal
The two-day Portuguese event, held on February 16-17, 2022 at the Modtissimo textile fair in Porto, launched a series of final SmartX regional dissemination activities, online and in person. [See: What You Have Missed]
Organised by local SmartX programme partner CITEVE with the support of the Cluster Têxtil / Portuguese Textile Cluster, the event was part of their iTechStyle Talks® initiative within the scope of the EU Industry Days. The showcase focused on the green and digital transition in the textile & clothing industries, as well as strengthening the resilience of companies in the ecosystem.
The SmartX regional event in Porto was held at the Modtissimo textile fair and served as an opportunity to present two of our funded projects developed by Portuguese SMEs: Body Care and iSoftSleep4.0.
The second day featured presentations by our consortium partners: Ana Ribeiro, Executive Director of the Portuguese Textile Cluster, spoke about competitiveness; whereas SmartX Project Coordinator Judith Bosch of Textile ETP presented opportunities within our programme for smart textile innovators: from funding to events to the new Smart Textiles Value Chain Map. She also pointed out that the engaging community we had built since 2019 “will stay alive after the termination of the project” in April 2022.

The event was also a great opportunity to present, for the first time offline, two of our funded projects developed by Portuguese SMEs: Body Care for Bedsore Prevention (by Sensing Future and Nanopaint) and iSoftSleep4.0: Smart Heating Blanket (by Têxteis Penedo and CeNTI – Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials).
We were joined at the event by Luis Ferreira (CTO and Co-Founder of Sensing Future) and Juliana Oliveira (Founder and CEO at Nanopaint), creators of Body Care for Bedsore Prevention
Body Care is a smart mattress cover with pressure sensors to be installed on hospital beds.
It comes with built-in software, designed to alert the medical team when the patient requires mobility.
Representatives from both projects and SmartX coaches were present at the event: networking, answering questions, and posing for pictures with the winning projects!

iSoftSleep4.0 is a smart heating blanket with electronic components, able to control the temperature based on user needs.
It was our great pleasure to see and talk with General Director of CITEVE Braz Costa, SmartX Coaches: Ana Ribeiro (Executive Director of the Portuguese Textile Cluster, as mentioned earlier), João Oliveira (Head Of Department for Digital Transition at CITEVE), Body Care representatives: Luis Ferreira (CTO and Co-Founder of Sensing Future) and Juliana Oliveira (Founder and CEO at Nanopaint), as well as Agostinho Afonso of the iSoftSleep4.0 project (Administrator at Têxteis Penedo).
